Rotterdam's central square with plenty of terraces in the middle of city centre opposite to the city hall.
In addition to the Old Harbour in Rotterdam, the City Hall Square is the most important nightlife area of Rotterdam. On this square facing the Coolsingel main street and the marvellous Rotterdam City Hall you can go out, have a drink or dine at the outdoor terraces seven days per week.
You’ll find lots of bars with outdoor eating facilities at the City Hall Square. When the weather is fine, this square is really crowded with people who are enjoying their lunch, dinner or just having a drink. When it’s cold outside, you can still sit outside due to the terrace heaters! Stadhuisplein is a tourist magnet and the menus are basic. Don’t expect haute-cuisine here, but mainly pub food like salads and spare ribs. This square is located in the middle of the shops in the city centre so shoppers can cool down here at one of the Stadhuisplein terraces.
At Stadhuisplein, lots of bars are open seven days per week until the early hours. During the day time the outdoor terraces are visited by city dwellers, but at night you’ll find many party people who go out at the Apres-Skihut, Get Back, Coconuts, Café ‘t Fust, Café Plein or Big Ben. Just behind Stadhuisplein you’ll find the well-known club Thalia. Also on weekdays there’s always some party going on at City Hall Square in Rotterdam.
Major sports events like the European or World Cup soccer and important matches of Feyenoord Rotterdam are broadcasted live on large screens at Stadhuisplein. During these public viewing events and on Kings Day in Rotterdam, the number of visitors of Stadhuisplein gets regulated to make sure the square doesn’t get overcrowded. Unfortunately Stadhuisplein is also associated with some disorder now and then, so when its getting too busy it’s time for you to go!
