The New Luxor Theatre is a prominent appearance at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge due to its striking design. The theatre, designed by Peter Wilson, was built in 2001. It was planned that this brand new theatre would eventually replace the Old Luxor Theatre within Rotterdam city centre, but at present both locations are still used for theatre shows. Within the New Luxor Theatre there are three different seating areas containing more than 1500 seats, which makes this theatre the biggest in Rotterdam. Just in front of the stage you can find the stalls and above the stalls there are two balconies.
The New Luxor Theatre in Rotterdam is used for performing arts, comedy, concerts, plays, dance, ballet, opera but also for big musical productions like Les Miserables, Cats, Titanic or Evita that are than shown during a longer period of time. Check the Rotterdam Agenda for shows coming up.
Before the start of the theatre show, the great view from their lobby on the Rotterdam skyline and Rijnhaven harbour is overwhelming. At sunny days, go for a drink on their roof top terrace. The theatre also offers the fine restaurant Leipzig where you can enjoy a nice dinner before the performance starts. Package deals are available as well.
