Rotterdam’s exhibition centre Kunsthal is located in an amazing building. Kunsthal Rotterdam is a museum without a private collection, but each year it hosts about 25 different expositions in the field of art and culture and cooperates with top museums around the world. The striking buildiing designed by the famous architect Rem Koolhaas offers over 3300 square meters of exhibition space. If you visit Kunsthal Rotterdam, there are always about five exhibitions on display.
Kunsthal offers a broad spectrum of exhibitions, ranging from Dutch painters, forgotten cultures and fascinating photos to new age design and contemporary art. During the last couple of years, Kunsthal has had exposition themes such as impressionism, architecture, lingerie, Alberto Giacometti, Leonardo da Vinci, Glory of Rome, Blackfoot Indians, Chinese Jewellery, Soccer Club Feyenoord and Playboy. One of the most successful exhibitions of Kunsthal was the exhibition on the work of Jean Paul Gaultier in 2013, which attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors. At regular intervals, Kunsthal Rotterdam organizes fun exhibitions which are also suitable for children. Besides the regular exhibitions, Kunsthal offers at least one special family exhibition every year. In 2007, the exhibition about dinosaurs with moving scale models a great success. In 2008, kids were digging in a sand-box to discover archaeological treasures during the exhibition of the Glory of Rome. In 2010, the family exhibition theme was Tour de France, which started in Rotterdam during that summer.
Not only the Kunsthal exhibitions are fascinating, the Kunsthal building is a work of art in its own right. The exposition centre is made of classic building materials such as marble and parquet which are combined with basic materials such as corrugated sheet, raw concrete, steel grids and unfinished timber. The sloping Kunsthal floors provide a seamless connection between the three large exhibition halls and two intimate galleries. On a sunny day, the Kunsthal Café offers a great outdoor terrace. The Kunsthal Shop offers nice souvenirs at a fair price.
The Kunsthal exhibition centre is located on the outer reaches of the Museum Park in Rotterdam. It’s the perfect opportunity to combine your day out at Kunsthal with a visit to the other museums within the Museum park, such as the Natural History Museum, the Netherlands Architecture Institute and the famous Museum Boijmans-Van Beuningen. Museumpark Ticket holders get discounts on the admission to all these museums! The Museumpark is also the place to be during the Rotterdam Museum Night.
Kunsthal Rotterdam is located within the Museumpark, close to the NAI. From Rotterdam Central Station, get there by metro and stop at Eendrachtsplein. As an alternative, take tram line 7 or 20 stop Museumpark or tram line 4 stop Eendrachtsplein.
You can park in the surrounding streets of the Museumpark or in the Museumpark garage in Rotterdam , but you'll have to pay.
