This modern city theatre offers a very diverse programme including lots of dance, opera and ballet!
De Rotterdamse Schouwburg (which means Rotterdam Theatre) was built in 1988 and replaced the old temporary theatre that was built after the 2nd world war. The theatre has got a very modern design which perfectly fits on the modern Schouwburgplein square.
There are more than 500 performances each year and you can see all important Dutch theatre, dance- and opera groups in this theatre. Theatre groups from Rotterdam like the RO theatre, the Scapino Ballet and Dance Works usually use this theatre for the premiere of their shows. The theatre programme includes many international performances as well.
There are two separate halls within this theatre: the Grote Zaal (which means Big Hall) containing 900 seats and the Kleine Zaal (which means Little Hall) containing 160 seats. The Grote Zaal consists of the stalls and two balconies.
Next to the Rotterdamse Schouwburg there’s a nice theatre café called Floor where you have a drink or dinner before the performance starts.
You can check the Rotterdamse Schouwburg website to check which performances are running and to buy tickets online. There’s also a sales office located at the theatre itself where you can buy tickets.
